Impact of a Student-teach-student Model for IPE Between Pharmacists and Dermatologists on Student Knowledge and Attitude

Introduction: The effective delivery of patient care is a complex venture, often requiring efficient collaboration among varied healthcare professions. Not surprisingly, research continues to indicate between these diverse professionals can be challenging. Early exposure health professions students interprofessional education (IPE) offers promising way improve this and, in turn, and service delivery. Objectives: This study examines the impact an innovative IPE cocurricular event on knowledge, understanding, attitudes, regarding future medical pharmacy students. Method: Students developed conducted involving dermatology-interest club, compounding-interest club. Medical introduced case, delivered standardized-patient format. was followed by student presentation representing compounding prescriptions needed for case writing accurate prescriptions. Following both presentations, from each program were paired. Each pair then communicated compounded two medications working collaboratively. Pre- post-questionnaires designed with rating scales open-ended questions data collection. Results: Both parametric nonparametric tests revealed significant differences pretests posttests. There no difference responding groups. Inspection changes attitudes learning. Conclusions: found reported improvements their level interest collaboration. groups began different expectations cooperation activities but left session very similar perspectives. By including early education, will gain understanding skills, services that pharmacist offer personalized care, acquire clinical reasoning based presentations. factors promote ultimately show promise improving outcomes care.
